I am always searching for a funny moment in the life of my silly little puppy than can be developed into a short blog post. I dutifully prepare my posts to ensure they post every other Tuesday. However, this week, I find myself struggling to identify a theme for the blog. In the wake of the terrible weather events that have devastated parts of our country, I am heartbroken to see not only the effects that these events have had on the human population, but the animal population as well. Zoos, sanctuaries, pet shops, farms, families and many others have struggled to find safe haven for the animals in their charge. The most heartbreaking, however, are those animals that have been left behind to fend for themselves. Faced with this situation, I could not leave without my precious pup. There have been several times we have faced the possibility of tornadoes in our area. When that is the case, I strap on her special harness. This harness has secure fasteners and most importantly a handle on the top. I always tell myself that in the event we would have to hunker down, this would allow me to hold on to her as tightly as possible. Extreme, perhaps, but it gives me comfort to know that I will do all that I can to ensure that she is safe. I find myself snuggling a little closer with her every day, thankful that she is here with me. My thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost their beloved pets and cherished animals in the craziness that has become our world.
